History of the Gower
The Gower peninsula was designated Britain’s’ first area of outstanding natural beauty back in 1956 and it’s easy to see why! The peninsula measures around 5 miles in width and little over three times that in length and is full of rustic beauty & rural charm, with quaint little villages and miles of stunning coastline.
Ancient monuments are abundant on the Gower peninsula, from burial chambers such as at Parc le Breose to world war outposts, such as can be found just a short walk from the park on Oxwich point, along with smugglers caves around the many bays and over 30 Iron Age forts such as that of Cil Ifor.
What ancient lands would be the same without great mythology? From the tales of Verry Volk (fairy folk) to King Arthur’s Stone - to haunted wells and ghostly water horses. On Gower there is mystery and adventure at every turn!

Lots to do...
As well as being a nice walk or short drive away from some of the most beautiful beaches in Britain, there are woodland walks & great food nearby too. Golfing and fishing are also available in the area, together with boating, watersports, rock climbing and horse riding for the more adventurous!
Why not take a walk around the coastal path to the Ship Inn in Port Eynon, which has been recently refurbished to a very high standard, passing over Slade Bay and through the village of Horton.
